Trade and Consumer Magazine Articles

Pet magazines and veterinary trade journals, while not high-paying, encourage articles from veterinarians and provide a forum for you to discuss your ideas. You can frame the resulting article to hang in your office or re-print it for your clients to take home.

Similar to the steps involved in writing a non-fiction book, you don't have to write the entire article first. You (or Fetch!) write(s)a one page query letter, outlining your article, why you have the credentials to write it and your contact information. If one publication doesn't want it, another may.

Lisa Collier Cool's How to Write Irresistible Query Letters guides you through the typical query letter format. Usually one page, the query letter provides a brief introduction to your idea and why you want to write it. Writers' Market 2009 lists every consumer and trade magazine, their editors' contact information and tips on what the publication needs. It's considered the freelance writer's bible. If you want to submit to magazines, you'll probably need one.

If you want to bounce your ideas from writers who've been down the freelance road, feel free to email us at info@veterinary-marketing.com or fill out the free consultation form below. We'd be happy to spend thirty minutes helping you think through your ideas, your best audiences and approach! If you have the writing bug, scratch it!
